Obituary for Mr. Emory S. Meck

Emory Stanley Meck, 84, of Mertztown, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16, 2023 in Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehab., Allentown. He was the loving husband of Anna Mae "Cookie" (Stauffer) Meck. The couple would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on June 24th.

Born in Allentown, Emory was the son of the late Stanley D. and Marietta M. (Romig) Meck. He was a 1957 graduate of Brandywine Heights High School and attended Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute. Emory honorably and faithfully served his country in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.

Emory was employed by the Brandywine Heights Area School District for 25 years, working as the Director of Maintenance and Maintenance Coordinator for all their buildings until his retirement in 2004. He was truly a Mr. Fix-it! Prior to his time at Brandywine Heights, Emory was employed as a serviceman by Frigidaire for several years.

Emory was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mertztown, where he served as a former Chairman of the property committee, and Deacon. He was also a former member of Topton Community Ambulance Board and their building committee during the construction of their new station.  He was also a member of Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton, and was a founding member and first President of the Brandywine Heights High School Band Boosters. Emory enjoyed camping and traveling; and everything related to trains. He was fortunate to have traveled to so many places throughout the years. He often looked forward to his frequent bus trips with his wife Cookie. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was so loved, that those who were not related, still called him "Grandpa".

Along with his wife of nearly 62 years, Cookie, Emory is survived by his two daughters, Kristine M. (Meck), widow of Allen W. Danner, Kutztown, Julie A. (Meck), wife of Neal M. Hobert, Mertztown; sister, Janice E. (Meck), wife of Robert N. Hartranft, both residents at Keystone Villa, Douglassville; and three grandchildren, Bryan A. Danner, Shane A., husband of Kelsey L. (Nissley) Hobert, and Kasey T. Hobert; and many extended family members.

A memorial service to celebrate and honor Emory's life will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 50 Luther Drive, Mertztown, PA with The Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Sassaman officiating. Burial, with military honors rendered by Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, and The Pennsylvania Military Funeral Honor Guard, Ft. Indiantown Gap, Annville, PA, will following Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the church.

The family requests contributions be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 117, Mertztown, PA  19539-0117.
