The Life of William J. Koenig

William Joseph Koenig, known affectionately to friends and family as Bill, Billy Joe, Jim , Bob, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024 in New Haven, Connecticut, due to congestive heart failure. Born on March 19, 1946, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Bill was a man whose laughter and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

 

Bill's early years in Bridgeport shaped him into the loving and charismatic person known to all. He

was the cherished son of the late William Koenig and Lillian Morrissey Koenig Smith. His life was

further enriched by the bond he shared with his siblings, the late Ray Koenig, Gladys Koenig Perez,

and Marlene Koenig Jones. Bill's family life was a tapestry of deep connections and shared moments

that continued to grow when he met the love of his life, Judith Reed Koenig. Together, they created

a family of their own, welcoming their beloved daughter Kara Koenig Fedak, who brought even more

joy into their lives along with her husband, Matthew Fedak, and their daughter, Monica Fedak.

 

Bill's academic journey led him to Southern Connecticut University and the University of

Bridgeport, where he expanded his knowledge and prepared for a career that was as diverse as his

interests. His service in the Navy instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he

carried throughout his life. Bill's professional path included ;successful stints as a salesman

for Florida Futures and Warehouse Outlets, and later as the owner-operator of a limousine service.

His entrepreneurial spirit and natural charm made him not just a businessman but a friend to his

clients and colleagues.

 

A man of many passions, Bill was a member of Friends of Bill W., where he found fellowship and

support. He was also a classic car enthusiast, with a particular fondness for his classic

Mercedes convertible. He could often be found driving around the beach in Lordship, with the top

down and the ocean breeze accompanying his travels. Bill also had a love for motorcycles and

boating and his NY Yankees, pursuits that spoke to his adventurous spirit and his appreciation for the finer things in life.

 

Those who knew Bill will remember him as a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, and a kind and funny friend. His sense of humor was a beacon of light that could brighten even the darkest days. His laughter was infectious, and his presence was a comfort to those around him. Bill's generosity extended beyond his family and friends, as he touched the lives of many with his warm demeanor and open heart.

 

As we bid farewell to Bill, we reflect on a life lived fully and joyously. He was a man who embraced every day with enthusiasm and who cherished the simple pleasures of life. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and kindness, and it will continue to live on in the hearts of those he has left behind.

 

William Joseph "Bill" Koenig will be profoundly missed by his family, including his wife Judith, daughter Kara, son-in-law Matthew, and granddaughter Monica, as well as the countless friends and acquaintances whose lives he enriched. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the remarkable man he was and the indelible mark he has left on this world. Bill's journey through life was a testament to the power of: love and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either The Wilson House or as a contribution to an education fund to benefit Monica Fedak. Contributions can be given directly to the family or through the funeral home.
