The Life of Ms. Barbara A. Dougiello

Barbara Ann Aniela Dougiello (Angerame), "Bobee", age 66, passed away on Wednesday, August 21 surrounded by her loved ones after a brief, yet extremely courageous, battle with cancer.
The daughter of the late Edmund W. and Barbara A. Dougiello and mother of Dominique Angerame, Barbara was a lifelong Fairfield resident and devoted family business owner. She attended St. Anthony's Catholic School and Cathedral High School, both of which left an imprint of strong faith and lifelong friendships in her heart. In her early adult years she ran the Lemon Tree Lounge with other family members and made memories to last for generations. Upon her father's illness, Bobee went to AAMI and graduated Suma Cum Laude to continue her father's legacy at the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello. Each family that entrusted their loved ones with Bobee received the most sincere and compassionate care, as she was truly devoted to each and every one of them. Although committed to her business, Bobee never forgot to have a good time. There are endless stories of special moments and laughs she shared with family and friends. Some of those most special to Bobee were her trips to the Poconos with the love of her life for over 30 years, David Bensey. What started as a trip for just Bobee and Dave to attend NASCAR races, over time turned into the most memorable of family vacations. In more recent years, she looked forward to every moment she spent at Skytop Lodge, where she beamed with happiness as soon as she pulled up. The Poconos will always be the place where her cherished granddaughter, Ada Farrell, took her first golf lesson and drove the ball further than Bobee the same day, and where she unknowingly took her last family trip for her daughter Dominique and her sister Darlene's birthday just six months ago. As an avid traveler, Bobee also enjoyed cruising, Cape Cod, Myrtle Beach, Napa Valley wine country and just about anywhere that had a casino. Being quite the athlete, Bobee played basketball at Cathedral High School and began playing softball at eight years old and continued through 2019 in the Fairfield Women's League. Bobee managed and sponsored "Dee's Angels" with Darlene in memory of their sister Denise and won quite a few trophies in the process. Each being two years apart, Bobee, Dar and Dee decided to start playing ice hockey in their 40's. As beginners in a co-ed hockey league, these three sisters were a tough force on the ice, inspiring Dominique to pursue the sport as well. Bobee was also an avid bowler, winning two championships with her dear friends in the Westport Women's League. Most recently her favorite activities were playing shuffleboard at the Ukrainian Club and playing golf anytime, anywhere and with any one. Being a lover of sports, Bobee was always the loudest in the gym or on the field cheering on her daughter and granddaughter. Since she was a child, St. Anthony of Padua Church held a special place in Bobee's heart. She devoted much of her time volunteering at the summer picnic running the "Lobster Tent" with her best friend of 60 years Christine Boccamazzo, and more recently being a major contributor and original organizer of the AutumnFest. One of the greatest joys in Bobee's life was being a member of St. Anthony's choir. She would beam with pride every time they nailed an Easter service, and told countless funny stories of what happened behind the scenes. Bobee had a passion for baking, and she spent many years and special moments passing on her talent to Ada. Being the most honest and genuine person most of us have ever had the pleasure of meeting, Bobee would never hesitate to help anyone in need. During a snowstorm a few years ago, she saw people struggling to carry groceries and walk in the snow and wind, so she decided to spend most of her day driving strangers up and down the hill on Boston Avenue in Bridgeport. THAT was the kind of person she was. Bobee was the glue that held the family together, making sure every birthday and holiday were taken care of and perfectly executed. She will always be remembered as the woman who had the strongest of personalities, yet softest of hearts.
Bobee's survivor's are her devoted daughter Dominique, who per her mother's wishes will carry on her legacy by caring for families during their time of loss with pride and compassion, her "Dear" David Bensey, beloved sister and partner in crime Darlene Dougiello, brother Edmund Dougiello of San Diego, CA, cousin and right hand man Peter Kopko (her "Igor"), cousin Dennis Novak, best friend Christine Boccamazzo, cherished granddaughter Ada Farrell who brought her the most joyous of memories, and her fur baby Garth; along with many cousins and an endless amount of friends and colleagues. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by anyone fortunate enough to cross her path. In addition to her parents, Bobee is predeceased by her sister Denise Dougiello, Dominique's father John Angerame and former mother in law Alba Angerame, whom all she lovingly cared for. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Bobee's hospice nurse, colleague and dear friend of many years Teresa Wojnoski, for providing her (and all of us) with care and comfort during this difficult time. It meant the world. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 28 from 3-7 p.m. at the FAIRFIELD FUNERAL HOME OF EDMUND W. DOUGIELLO, 36 South Pine Creek Rd., Fairfield (additional parking will be available at St. Anthony's Church). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 29 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Rd., Fairfield, followed by entombment in the Mausoleum at Oak Lawn Cemetery on Bronson Road in Fairfield. Donations in Barbara's name may be made to two charities very dear to her heart, BARC CT (barc-ct.org) and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
