The Life of Mrs. Marie Harlow

Marie (Weege) Harlow, age 93, widow of the late Albert L. Harlow, Sr. died in Christiana Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. She was born on November 11, 1930 to Thomas and Lee Attianese. She was raised in Fairfield and lived there most of her life. She had just recently moved to Wilmington to be near her daughter, Hilary Tower.
A graduate of Mary Washington College and Laurelton Hall, Weege met her husband, Al, when he was at the University of Virginia and she was at Mary Washington. They lived in Charlottesville, VA and Newport, RI while he was serving in the Navy before settling in Fairfield where her husband set up his law practice and where they raised their three children. Al passed away in 1995.
Weege served in many philanthropic and leadership roles in the community since becoming a member of the Junior League of Bridgeport in the early 1960's. She was heavily involved with Youth Opportunity Unlimited (Y.O.U.) and worked on the enrichment committee which brought creative dramatics to the Waltersville School of Bridgeport. She also helped introduce "Black History Week" in the local schools. She loved her visits to NYC on the Junior League bus where she saw many plays and musicals, visited museums and enjoyed many NYC lunches. She always said, "New York is the best city in the world!"
Weege was also an Apprentice at the Westport County Playhouse, active in Community Theater and the Fairfield Comedy Club. She was a member of the Fairfield County Hunt Club and The Fairfield Beach Club where she was known to be a wonderful hostess. She was passionate about Duplicate Bridge and enjoyed skiing, playing tennis and golf. Later in life, she enjoyed oil painting florals, abstracts and landscapes.
Weege was a dedicated and loving mother to her children and especially adored her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Wytrzes (Wayne) of Palm Beach, FL and Nantucket, MA, Albert Harlow, Jr. (Danette) of Chagrin Falls, OH and Hilary Tower (Harry) of Wilmington, DE. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Albert L. Harlow III, Robert Daniel Harlow, Harry P. Tower, Jr., William H. Wytrzes and Lillian A. Wytrzes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Anthony's of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Operation Hope in Fairfield, CT.
