The Life of Wanda Chee-How

Wanda (Wun Yee) Chee-How, age 90, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late George Chee-How, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2024, with her loving family by her side. She was affectionately known by many as "Me-Ma." Wanda was born on February 10, 1934 to the late Chun Yam Wong & King Hing Kong in Toishan Village, Guangdong, China.

Wanda and George proudly owned and operated Fairfield's first Chinese restaurant, Hong Kong Restaurant on Black Rock Turnpike, where many regulars became cherished friends. She was an avid knitter, creating beautiful scarves and blankets for her family and even friends of friends. Her green thumb was well known and her home was overflowing with greenery as her grandchildren often entrusted her to nurse their plants back to health. Me-Ma treasured every moment spent with her family, especially family reunions in the Outer Banks. She loved cooking for her family and friends. Her specialties included pork dumplings, jook (congee), her famous chicken wings, steamed sea bass, sweet rice, lo mein, and Chinese soups. Me-Ma also enjoyed watching Chinese soap operas and looked forward to video calls with her siblings and other family and friends.

She is survived by her devoted children, Helen (Tony) Leung of
Chino Hills, CA, Barbara Churko of Brooklyn Heights, OH, Linda (Bobby) Carriero of Stratford, CT, Johnny Chee-How of Canton, GA and Sylvia (John) Chee-How Burek of Fairfield, CT; her cherished grandchildren, Frankie, Ellen, Wilson, Christina, Thomas, Casey (Stan), Christiana, Gabrielle, Olivia, Emma and Noah; her great-grandchildren Yan Yan, Xander and Remi; her sister Helen Moy of Harwood Heights, IL, her brother Chai Yan (Wai) of Wappingers Falls, NY, her brother Ying (Helena) of Cary, NC, and sister Sandra (Jack) Colligan of Milford, and many nieces and nephews.
