The Life of Robert C. Field
Robert Carter Field (Bob) of Forest Hill, MD, passed away on Tuesday, 28 February, 2023. He was 77 years old.
Mr. Field grew up in Gaithersburg, MD and was a 1963 graduate of Gaithersburg High School. He graduated from the University of Virginia and Florida State University with degrees in biology and genetics. During his time at UVA, he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. While there, he gained life-long friends, many of whom he got together with and kept in touch with to this day.
During the Vietnam War, he volunteered for duty in the US Army and was stationed at Edgewood Arsenal, MD. He spent three years in Germany, followed by duty at Ft. McLellan, AL, Ft. Polk, LA and Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD before leaving the service as a captain in the Ordnance Corps.
After his Army service, he worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground as a defense department civilian employee in the office of the Joint Program Manager, NBC Contamination Avoidance. He managed the program which developed the FOX Reconnaissance Vehicle for the US Army Chemical Corps. The FOX was designed to assess and manage chemical and biological contamination on the battlefield. He retired from civil service in 2008.
Bob enjoyed sailing, riding his treasured Harley Davidson, reading books of all kinds and spending quality time with his family and friends. Bob was an avid history buff who always had a story or life lesson to go along with anything and everything. He was a salty sailor, but if he called you a friend, you were a friend for life and that meant he would do anything for you.
He is survived by his son Robert Patrick, his two children Meghan and Robert Joseph, and his daughter Margaret Hanlin, her husband Thomas and their sons Thomas III and Carter.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Mr. Field. He will be resting peacefully for eternity with his adored family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bob’s name be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org/donate.)

Tremendous Loss
Bob and I went back 42 years when I was in advanced course and Bob work with the eclectic crowd at TECO. Was a great group to work with. Worked again with Bob in late 80's on the NBC Recon program. Bob was a great friend and a pioneer in the early days of our business. God Bless you Bob. Karl. A. Semancik, Sr. COL (Ret) USA
